Around OOH Digest: Future Edition

Don't fight the future!

At DOmedia, out-of-home media excites us. We love all the ways it’s being used, the trends, and the ways it’s changing. That’s why we’re always staying up to date on the latest and greatest. To share the OOH love, we like to round up our favorite news, trends, insights and general fun around the OOH world.

This month, we’ve got a special treat for you: we’ll be focusing on the future of OOH, and what this month has shown us about where it’s headed. Let’s face it, too many people think that out-of-home = billboards = old and boring. But take a closer look, and that couldn’t be further from the truth. Bring on the future, because it looks pretty bright to us.

Growth in 9/10 Top OOH ad categories

In a recent article by MediaPost, Nancy Fletcher, President of the Outdoor Advertising Association of America (OAAA), found that nine of the top 10 product categories in out-of-home (OOH) advertising showed revenue increases in Q2, 2015, despite a decline in overall advertising spending.

The nine product categories are:

  1. Miscellaneous Services and Amusements
  2. Retail (image 2 or 4)
  3. Media & Advertising
  4. Public Transportation
  5. Financial
  6. Insurance & Real Estate
  7. Government, politics & Organizations
  8. Communications
  9. Automotive Dealers and Services

As we recently reported, Out-of-home advertising revenue was the only traditional media to see significant growth in Q2. Despite this growth, we believe OOH advertising is still not being used to its full potential because it lacks the targeting and analytics of other types of advertising.

We created DOmedia’s suite of OOH ad-buying tools to ease these burdens for advertisers and brands. Domedia’s mapping capabilities, search functions and integration with the Traffic Audit Bureau help advertisers increase the effectiveness of their out of home advertising buys. Our software helps media vendors by making out-of-home advertising easier to buy, and helps agencies convey its effectiveness to brands. Give us a call at our offices in Columbus, Ohio to learn about our mission to change the way media is bought and sold.

OOH Innovation at 2013 Ignite OAAA/TAB Conference

Last week, like many of you, I attended the 2013 Ignite OAAA/TAB Conference in Los Angeles. I probably saw some of you at the tradeshow, workshops, general sessions or receptions. The conference was very well attended, in fact one of the best attended in recent years, and there was a buzz of excitement and enthusiasm about the direction the OOH advertising industry is moving.

The presenters and panels shared and discussed some great information, and whether you buy or sell digital, alternative, or traditional OOH media, there was relevant information for everyone. One main theme that seemed to keep appearing was Innovation. Continue reading →
